Wild Soul baby version

Wild Soul baby version

I'll start by saying this is not the pattern version of the baby quilt - I didn't have enough backing and just winged it instead! This one is smaller, with cut off side blocks, but I love how it came out and these colors are so so cute.

I whipped up this adorable quilt for a college friend having her first baby. I had some of Moda's Big Sky fat quarters stashed and found some coordinating "woodland" yellows and greens on my shelf to go with it. Baby quilts are great for that aren't they?

The background is my favorite Moda chambray in black - I used a whole bolt of it over various quilts and need to order more! It sews beautifully and makes such a great alternative to white backgrounds. And anyone who has had children will tell you - babies and white just don't mix well!

When I made this quilt, I had just brought home a used long-arm machine and quilted some simple freehand loops on a minky back. When we moved across the country the long-arm sadly didn't come with us, but Cait and I recently bought another longarm and are SO excited to start using it!

Like I said, this quilt was a bit on the tiny side because I was low on fabric - I eked out a few more inches with a striped border.

I love this pattern and have loved looking back through the archives this month as we feature all the Wild Soul samples we've made!
