Jolie - soft pink baby version

Jolie - soft pink baby version

This beautiful quilt was made for my cousin and his expecting wife, inspired by only a rug from Rifle Paper Company :) This bundle was so fun to put together though, because it also happens to be my favorite shades of pink! It's a mix of different designers and even manufacturers, including Dear Stella, Art Gallery Fabrics, Moda and Rifle as well! I've gotten much more comfortable making custom bundles from my stash, and really love the freedom to be creative when I allow myself to mix and match.

I have been using a lot of black Chambray lately, so it was refreshing to make a quilt with a white background again. I forgot how crisp, clean, and delicate it looks. I used Quilter's Dream Request cotton batting and the last bit of gray minky from Joann's I had on hand. It's quite thick minky - more so than the Shannon Cuddle minky I usually use - so it made for some really delightful texture! I debated on minky backing for this Houston baby...it's not like they need anything really warm! But we use our minky baby quilts on the hardwood floors ALL the time, so I went ahead and figured it's still perfect for tummy time or a photo shoot. :)
I decided to use the black chambray as binding though - this quilt was so busy and scrappy I wanted to ground it a little with a nice contrasting frame. I love how that turned out - if you've been around a bit you'll see I will bind a quilt with anything if it enhances the pattern! Solids, small scale, large scale, even the background...the binding is given just as much thought as the main prints.
Some simple straight line quilting and a good look-over from my tiny quality control officer, and it was off to Texas for a baby shower! Jolie is a lovely baby quilt to make as it comes together really quickly, and 32" square is a nice size for baby pictures, lap cuddles, and to throw over a car seat on a chilly day. (We still use ours as a toddler lap quilt in the car!) I really loved making this one for some dear family.
I even made a bonus project with the cut-offs :)
