From summer Girl Scout camps to college climbing crags, the outdoors have always been a big part of my life. Some of my lifelong best friendships were forged in the Purdue University Outing Club - including my relationship with my husband. After the glamourous Gatsby debut quilt was finished, I switched gears for the next Indulgent - a quilt full of prints that reminded me of being outside, camping, and mountains. While the first Indulgent used small scale fabrics and large quilting motifs, this one showcases some larger prints and denser quilting.
I basically did everything the opposite. :) And I love them both!
I love the look of black Moda Crossweave but hate working with the soft fraying fabric and it's tendency to curl under the iron. My quilter suggested I try Moda Chambray instead - it's lightweight, looks nearly identical, but is slightly stiffer and easier to sew with much less fraying. (Not as stiff as Essex linen, though.) It's become my go-to dark background. And also...no way was I going to take a white quilt outdoors!
Nothing says camping like a cool night and campfire - so it was a given I was going to put a (dark!) minky backing on this one. Minky makes the BEST backings and cozy quilts - I'm so grateful my long-arm quilter is willing to do it!
Quilted by Nicole (KwiltIt!) in Clamshell Mushroom - the same panto I used on the debut Indulgent but on a smaller scale (4" instead of 8"). Isn't it cool how the look changes when you change the size of the design?!
Now the bad news, guys....I FORGOT TO TAKE A FULL QUILT PHOTO! This quilt was gifted to a very dear friend of mine I met in the Outing Club - I gave it to her and completely forgot I didn't do a photo shoot with it yet! So this lovely photo is all I have to share of the finished quilt. :/ But it's a pretty one!
