I can't toss a block in the trash. I just can't. I have an entire bin of orphan blocks that I occasionally dig into for small projects. This project started out as a Grow Wild quilt for my daughter, but I ended up changing my mind before I started the sashing. A year or so later I decided to take all the blocks and simply sew them together, including the orphan strip set. I was surprised how much I liked it! Other than the strip block, it's pretty much the Lucky Log Cabins quilt by Emily Dennis.
Foxglove is just one of those brilliant fabric lines that looks amazing no matter what. I love the saturated colors and adorable prints. I used an orange from my stash for the binding to bring out the scare orange in the quilt.
I used Shannon Fabrics cuddle minky in silver on the back. It's challenging to use on my home machine but with lots of practice and spray baste, I feel comfortable using it for small projects like this one with minimal shifting. These pictures were taken after a wash, so you see the quilt crinkle in the minky as well from the cotton top and batting shrinkage. (Minky is polyester and doesn't shrink.)
Overall, this was a surprisingly fun project that used up a bin of abandoned blocks. It's listed as a ready-to-ship quilt in my handmade shop.
