My Tribe in Feed Company fabrics

This year, I challenged myself to design a large throw size quilt using only 5" squares after I luckily snagged a couple of out-of-print Sweetwater charm packs! And it had to be just two charm packs, because that’s all I had! (The quilt can be made with a variety of precuts though, don't worry!) Soon, My Tribe was born - a traditional Irish chain quilt with one of my very favorite shapes in the middle...squares on point!

I was putting the finishing touches on the pattern before it had a name – I just have to wait until something clicks. It came to be known as My Tribe due to many events happening in my life simultaneously in 2018 – the overwhelming family support for my sister who struggles with chronic illness, my amazing husband and all he does for us and our marriage, an upcoming visit to the Midwest to see my entire family and in-laws, and my brother and his wife adding a perfect baby girl to their family of three. Like the chain in the quilt, all these connections make up my tribe. More than simply my family or my friends - they are my people, and I’m grateful for each and every one of them. This is still my favorite pattern to use for a baby quilt, because of the symbolism I feel when adding a babe to the clan.

Quilted by Abby Latimer of Latimer Lane Quilting in Bread Basket - one of my favorite pantos!

Frustratingly, my background in this version turned different colors after a wash - I never could figure out why! I don't have a full quilt photo, so a new My Tribe for the blog and pattern page is in the works. I do have a couple baby versions you can check out in the meantime, and occasionally add mock-ups to the Idea Board.
