Buttercup in Feed Company fabrics
Once again, I'm way late to blogging this version of Buttercup but...better now than never! I used my last little bit of an old out-of-print line by Sweetwater Fabrics called Feed Company to make this quilt I gifted to my brother and his family for Christmas. They live in rural Indiana in the cutest yellow farmhouse - it's just perfect! I made my debut Buttercup in modern prints using fat quarters, so it was fun to break out more traditional quilting fabrics for this one. A fun memory I have this of quilt - I hosted a casual Instagram sew-along to motivate myself to get this one pieced while I was 2-3 months pregnant! I never would have finished it otherwise!
I used a jelly roll and a charm pack for the prints, Kona Bone for the background, and Kona Sage for the coordinating solid. I lucked out having a solid in my stash that matched Feed Company perfectly! I love how Kona Bone was just the right shade of off-white to match the softer whites in Feed Company. I usually use a bright white, but if there's a lot of vintage whites in your prints they can look dingy next to a bright white background.
Quilted perfect by Nicole (KwiltIt!) in one of my all-time favorite pantographs - Clamshell Mushroom.
The plaid binding is my favorite! I love all sorts of binding and use a wide variety of prints and solids to frame my quilts, but I'm really crushing on this plaid.
I absolutely love the look of a bold cotton backing, but I just can't substitute the soft cuddliness of minky. When you look at what quilts get used the most in our house, it's always the minky quilts. If you've never tried it, I highly recommend it! (Thought I have tried to use it once on one I quilted at home, and it was a disaster. At the moment, I only trust my long-arm quilter with a minky quilt!)
What version would you make? Modern and bold or sweety traditional? I love that both work for this pattern!
